Explicit retrieval on associated information such as metadata, context or user-made annotations has become an important feature of many personal information systems. However, there is little support for developers who wish to add this functionality to their applications. This often results in poor retrieval options or application-specific solutions that lack reusability. To address this problem, we have developed a Java framework on top of db4o that offers database functionality and additionally support for manual and automatic creation of associations between objects as well as retrieval based on these associations.
