Grid computing receives a constantly growing attention as it has turned out to be a well suited environment for complex problem solving or data storage. One key characteristic of Grid computing is its dynamics represented mainly in two aspects. First, service Grids are embedded in a geographically and organisationally distributed virtual organisations which are characterized by a strong dynamic in their composition and business processes. Second, the variable resource consumption for problem solving and service provisioning. Meanwhile the potential of Grid systems is not only discovered by the latest scientific researches but also by commercial use. This fact asks for a cost accounting model enabling accounting and charging of services between the frequently joining and leaving members of the virtual organisation. Based on established cost accounting systems such as traditional cost accounting system and activity-based costing, this thesis develops a cost accounting model for Grid service providers allowing system designers to adjust the model to their specific characteristics of the provided Grid service and the needs of Grid computing. The primary targeted of the accounting model is to provide a concept which allows calculating cost for one service request.
