Abstract:
The Pre-Development as a part of the product innovation is a precondition for a goal-oriented approach. It increases the efficiency of the innovation cycle and enhances market success. Due to its fuzzy character and its claim as a platform for decision-making the dilemma arise how to convert initial ideas in cogent product concepts. Therefore the Pre-Development must provide reasonable functionalities to concretize the ideas into substantial product proposals. The paper examines the problem structure which the Pre-Development is confronted with and introduces a theoretical framework of tailoring systems to reduce the complexity of the Pre-Development. In addition, it proposes a suitable handling of the innovation problem embedded in a meaningful project organisation. The findings were evaluated in the context of the information technology for their practicability. Therefore a application prototype was developed to demonstrate the unctionalities of such a process model.
